We meet outside.

We embrace the season.

We create magic.

Young elementary students need fun extracurricular activities but they also need more time to PLAY, the freedom to get MESSY, and the chance to be outside in NATURE!

Tiny Art takes place in Griffith Park, surrounded by redwoods, hiking trails, and all kinds of beautiful tiny creatures.

Play is the work of the child.

$375 for 6 class session

Early elementary art should give children a clear sense of the basic elements of art but it should also be FUN! In our Tuesday class for K-3rd graders, your child will learn about color, line, shape, texture, and space through exciting and dynamic projects: sculpt a donut, create a spider web installation, design Tiny Art Trading cards, use shaving cream for printmaking! Our class format allows for children of all skill levels to work side by side, learning from each other and taking joy from the process, not just the outcome.

Children need the freedom and time to play. Play is not a luxury. Play is a necessity. - Kay Redfield Jamison.

Our one day camps are designed for K-5th graders who like to have fun!  The children will enjoy plenty of unstructured play, open-ended art, and time in nature.  Many of our campers will hike to the Observatory (this is optional), some keep a lively coach-pitch baseball going for most of the day, others become absorbed in complex pretend games carried out in the dell, and several of the children will choose to spend almost the entire day engaged in the many art activities we offer throughout the day. Tiny Art Camp is the perfect break from the classroom especially for those midweek school holidays.

Every child deserves a 90’s kind of summer: free play, art, nature, hiking, field trips, ice cream. We aren’t building specialized skills at camp; we are allowing hearts and imaginations to roam free. Play freeze tag, wander through a museum without an agenda, eat ice cream before it melts, go bug hunting, create a pretend shop, draw, paint, sculpt, blow giant bubbles, jump rope, hit the playground, play baseball!

Highlights include:

  • Griffith Observatory and Planetarium

  • The Autry Museum

  • Hiking & Playgrounds

  • Landscape Painting

  • Descanso Gardens Field Trip*

  • Unstructured Playtime

  • Open Ended Art

*drop-off/pick-up is at Descanso Gardens for the field trip
